My pet frogs, Sparticus, Chicu and Kabibi doing their best ‘Cookie Monster’ impression while they eat their dinner! These 3 frogs are all African Clawed Frogs. (Xenopus) This species of frog is completely aquatic. The large white one is a female albino Xenopus Laevis, and the smaller ones are both male Xenopus Mulleri. They live on a diet mainly of frog pellets and occassional earth worms. They have a 20 gallon tank which is really the minimum for two of these frogs, but the boys are much smaller that regular xenopus laevis. They’re all about 4 or 5 years old, and with luck and care could live for another 10 years. New Pet – African Clawed Frog
This is my latest aquatic addition to my growing list of pets. I just bought this 30 gallon setup, intending to buy 3 African clawed frogs for it, but two of them that the store sold me turned out to be African dwarf frogs (don’t grow large–would eventually be eaten by the ACFs!) Needless to say I took the ADFs back to the store and got a refund. So, at the moment, “Clark” (not sure yet whether it’s male or female) is on his or her own.
The gravel container in the back is temporary–substrate from another tank to help this one cycle. I also added BioSpira.
As you can see, Clark’s a little pig when it comes to bloodworms! One challenge of oocyte work is eliminating native proteins that might confound results, such as membrane channels native to the oocyte.
