In this scene from COYOTELAND (US 17min.) L.A. wildlife officer, Louie Dedeoux, releases a gopher snake and a red tailed hawk into the wild and muses about what it all means

This makes them among the largest US snakes, although generally not as long as indigo snakes or as big around as rattlesnakes.
