Sambath Uon does not like to go to sleep without his best friend Chamreun, an enormous 4.8m long Burmese python, curled up with him.

Seven-year-old Uon lives in the village of Sit Tbow, 50km east of Phnom Penh, and says he loves the python as if it were his sister.

Chamreun, which means lucky, slithered into the village in 2000 when Uon was just a few months old. His father tried to return the snake to the forest numerous times, but it kept coming back.
