This species has actually benefited from commercial utilisation and over-hunting of other species within its range Crocodylus acutus, CROCODYLUS intermedius and Melanosuchus niger, taking over habitat from which it would otherwise have been out-competed by healthy populations.

Widespread, but not common, across South and South-east Asia, It lives in dense highlands forest.
This is a small (90 gal.) pond in my flower garden. It was built for the turtle who outgrew her indoor tank. Rosebud the turtle is a Texas Red Eared Slider. She shares the space with four comet goldfish. No, the turtle dosen’t try to eat the fish. I feed them a commercialy prepared food daily.
The FDA made a regulation in 1975 to discontinue the sale of turtles under 4 inches, making this illegal in every state in the USA Many stores and flea markets still sell small turtles due to a loophole in the FDA regulation which allows turtles under 4 inches to be sold for educational purposes.
A look at my Uromastyx’s coloring after basking in the UV like all day. He’s noticeably more yellow.
Plus a tour of his set up.
His tank temps range from 120-85 degrees on the hot and cool ends respectively. I chose to use a tub because it not only is more economical, it allows for me to create the proper heat gradient. It also has better circulation than a regular tank. I use sand as my substrate cause it holds the heat well and night as well as gives him something to dig around in. I’m currently considering switching to Millet but haven’t completely made up my mind on that.
His Diet consists of Bok Choy and Vegetable lovers prepackaged salad (consists of various dark greens, green beans, carrots, and cabbage) with the Bok making up the majority of the mix. I like to offer variety and offer him a FEW mealworms every other week. Too much protien is bad and can lead to kidney failure. I also supplement his diet with Rep-Cal tortoise pellets because they contain essential vitamins and minerals. I do NOT use bearded dragon pellets of the same brand because it contains too much protein because it contains insect ingredients. Tortoise pellets only contain fruit and vegetable ingredients. I only offer him them once a week because I want him to get his fill of greens before feeding on them because he needs to moisture from the fresh veggies.
This is turning into a care sheet so i’ll stop there!
Two male Galapagos tortoises on the island of Santa Cruz.
However, although feeding giant tortoises move about slowly, browsing with no apparent direction, if they have a purpose, such as moving to water or nesting grounds, they can move with surprising speed and determination given their size.
